Pellas Commitment to Environmental Stewardship in Shrewsbury, MA

A proud environmental steward, Pella acknowledges its responsibility to find ways to create products and function in a way that respects and protects our natural resources. The company practices environmental stewardship by developing energy-efficient products, responsibly utilizing natural resources and recycling.

Energy-Efficient Products

For starters, Pella’s replacement windows, doors and glass options are developed with innovative solutions to conserve energy. Windows and doors can be a huge source of heat loss in a home. Heat can escape in the winter or be allowed in during the summer, causing your furnace or air conditioner to work harder and consumer more energy.

The framework plays an important role in how well your windows or doors insulate your home. If you are in the market for wood windows, wood is a natural insulator, keeping you comfortable in your home during every season. Air chambers inside Pella’s vinyl windows and patio doors lessen heat loss and sound transmission to help keep your home quieter and more comfortable year-round.

Natural Resources

Pella uses wood from vendors who practice responsible harvest and replenishment. Steps are taken throughout the design and manufacturing process to enhance yield from the lumber. Pella also works with companies to recycle or salvage the sawdust that is generated through the manufacturing process.

The Practices

It’s not just the wood windows built, but the technique in which they are built. Here are just a few of the ways Pella follows positive environmental business practices:

  • Recycling Manufacturing Materials – Many materials used in the process of producing replacement windows or doors can be recycled. Whether it’s used for Pella’s own use or its repurposing by other companies, items such as wood, metal, glass, vinyl, plastic, screen cloth, oil, batteries, paper, cardboard, electronics and more are correctly recycled to avoid waste.

  • Using Recycled Material in Products – Pella works with suppliers who incorporate post-consumer recycled materials such as glass and aluminum into raw materials used by Pella to create products.

  • Recycling Glass – Pella gathers the surplus glass and broken glass to a recycling vendor where it is used to create products such as bottles, fiberglass countertops, carpet, tile and reflective paint for highways.

There are a lot of examples of how Pella is devoted to responsible use of our natural resources, and for the eighth time, they were named the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year in 2015.
